Starting back with my weighted blankets

Posted by Amy On June - 18 - 2009

I will be starting to sell my weighted blankets and lap pads again very soon. I have several that are ready, I just need to fill them with weight.  I won’t be selling them on “fee”bay any longer, though. I will be putting some on etsy and the rest here on my blog.  I was very successful on ebay, but the fees are going up every time one turns around and I just don’t want to continue to pay the outrageous fees to them.

Be sure to keep checking back, I hope to have some ready in the next few days.

Here’s some photos of ones I have sold in the past.

More words

Posted by Amy On May - 19 - 2009

Yesterday evening Mike, Gregory and I were sitting on the back porch.

Gregory was playing with Mike then wanted to rinse off his feet (the chickens are in the back yard, so he had poop on his feed).  He kept showing us, and knowing that we normally would just get up and turn on the water to rinse them off.

Instead, Mike took Gregory’s hand and put it on his mouth and said “water”…trying to get Gregory to say it. Finally, I suggested “wa-wa”.  Gregory said it!!! WOOT!

Then, Gregory saw some planes overhead and pointed excitedly to them.  Mike did the same thing and Gregory said “plane”.

This went on for about 30 minutes, I would say, and Gregory ended up saying not only those words, but “bird” and “splash”.

We were so excited. I hope this is the start of major communication. Not getting to hopeful, but any words is a great improvement.

Happy Birthday Gregory!

He is 5 today!

It’s been a long 5 years, but then again, it seems like just yesterday my little guy was born.

He’s at school right now, I will snap a birthday photo and post it later today.

Happy Birthday Little Guy!

Better

Posted by Amy On April - 7 - 2009

Gregory’s lungs sounded better today, so we’re just doing nebulizer treatements as needed.  Glad no hospital stay this time.

Illness and regression

Posted by Amy On April - 6 - 2009

Gregory is once again down.  We just returned from the Doctor’s office, but thankfully, he was not admitted to the hospital…yet.

He was given a steroid shot and we go back at 9:30 tomorrow morning to see how his lungs sound.

Of course, with illness brings regression. He now is not eating again and barely drinking anything.  Hopefully tomorrow will bring a better Gregory.

Finally Feeding Himself

Posted by Amy On March - 30 - 2009

Gregory will turn five on April 15.

Finally, last week, he started feeding himself!  He still only eats pureed foods, yogurt, applesauce and oatmeal, but this is a HUGE milestone for him!

We’re now working on potty learning.  I’ve been changing diapers for 8 years, starting when Felicity was born…I’m ready to retire diapers for good!

Way to go my little man!

Autism Awareness Shirts

Posted by Amy On March - 26 - 2009

I met a fellow Mom of an Autistic child throught the internet some time ago.  Her name is Dana and she designs Autism Awareness shirts.  Her business name is Special Kids, Special Needs and her designs are FABULOUS!  I have purchased one for myself and one for Gregory…and I have a list of more I plan to purchase.

I have a link in the side bar to the right with her ebay listings showing on them.  Take a look at Dana’s shirts and buy one (or three).  They are made with top name brand tshirts and Dana’s own transfers.

Enjoy!

Why balloons?

Posted by Amy On February - 9 - 2009

Hugs by the Pound originated when I was making weighted blankets and selling them on ebay for those with special needs.

I sold so many of my weighted blankets, that I decided I would open an online store to get away from ebay fees, and decided on the name Hugs by the Pound.  After months of procrastinating, I decided instead of an online store, I wanted to do Hugs by the Pound in blog form.

While designing the site, I knew I wanted something fun and mostly for kids.  One day when we were out shopping someplace, my autistic son, Gregory, saw balloons and squealed with delight.  I knew then, I wanted the site theme to be balloons.

Some say it reminds them of birthdays, but after all, what child doesn’t just love balloons???

And by the way, I will have my weighted blankets available for sale again, soon.

Welcome
